Researchers from the University of South Australia uncovered evidence linking vitamin D deficiency to an increased risk for dementia and stroke. The research paper published in the ‘American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’, https://doi.org/10.1093/ajcn/nqac107, showed that Vitamin D deficiency was associated with an increased risk of dementia and stroke. 17% of Dementia cases could be avoided if Vitamin D concentrations in the body were increased for those individuals with low levels.
While ‘normal’ levels of Vitamin D in the blood are 20 nanograms/milliliter to 50 ng/mL the research suggested by increasing the concentration from 25 to 50 ng/ML the cases of dementia could be avoided in 17% of cases.
