I built a brain-health supplement for my family. My father's 91 now — still sharp. Here's what the research told me to put in it.
I didn't build this because my parents had a problem. I built it because I wanted them getting the researched nutrients, at doses that actually matter. Not guesswork.
My father was in his early 80s when I started. He's 91 now. Still sharp. Still himself.
I'm not a doctor. But I know how to read research. So what did I do? I went through the research papers. Thousands of them. I wanted to find a formula that would maximise brain support going forward, at the doses the evidence actually points to. A handful of nutrients turn up again and again in the science on how the brain ages, and most of them are the ones people over 55 are most likely to be short of.
If any of this sounds like you, you're in good company
- Worried about losing the thread of a sentence halfway through
- Concerned about walking into a room and forgetting why
- Don't want to become forgetful as you get older
- Want to feel energised, with clarity of mind, for as long as possible
None of this is a diagnosis, and it isn't inevitable decline. It's simply what a lot of people over 55 want for themselves, and it's worth taking seriously, because a lot of it tracks with nutrients the body absorbs less efficiently as it gets older.
Here's what most brain supplements miss
They chase exotic-sounding "nootropic" ingredients that look impressive on a label but sit far below any dose the research ever studied. Meanwhile the nutrients with the strongest evidence for the ageing brain get left out or under-dosed, because they're less exciting to market.
Two problems in particular kept coming up in the research:
Omega-3 is hard to put in a tablet
DHA is the dominant structural fat in the brain's neural membranes. On the pack you'll see the authorised claim that DHA and EPA contribute to the normal function of the brain, heart and vision, but it only holds at a meaningful daily dose. Omega-3 is an oil, so most multivitamins simply leave it out. We didn't. We gave it a dedicated softgel delivering 250mg DHA, the authorised threshold, alongside 500mg EPA.
The B-vitamins have to be in a form your body can use
As you age, absorption of B12 in particular drops. So we used the methylated, active forms: methylcobalamin B12, P5P B6, calcium methylfolate. The forms that don't depend on a conversion step your body may be doing less well.
That's the whole design philosophy: put in what the research points to, at forms and doses that mean something, and leave out the label-decoration.
This is NeuroBright with Turmeric
It's a two-part daily system: 28 Omega-3 softgels and 28 multivitamin capsules in each box. Built from the research, developed in the UK, and made to the standard I wanted for my own family.
- A dedicated Omega-3 softgel: 500mg EPA / 250mg DHA, for the authorised brain, heart and vision claims
- B6, B12, C and folate for normal psychological function, in active, methylated forms suited to older absorption
- Thiamine, B12, C, Vitamin D (2000IU) and copper for the nervous system
- Pantothenic acid and niacin for the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
- Turmeric (BCM-95 curcumin), researched for its anti-inflammatory role, in the name and in the tablet
- No under-dosed "nootropic" fillers added for the label alone
What's inside, and what the science is allowed to say
DHA & EPA
"DHA and EPA contribute to the normal function of the brain, heart and vision."
The brain's neural membranes are rich in DHA, delivered at 250mg, the level the brain-function claim requires, with 500mg EPA alongside.
B6 · B12 · C · Folate
"Vitamins B6, B12, C and folate contribute to normal psychological function."
Active, methylated forms of the B-vitamins, chosen for absorption that suits people over 55.
Pantothenic Acid & Niacin
"Contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue."
For the mid-afternoon flatness that so often sits alongside the mental fog.
Thiamine · B12 · C · D · Copper
"Contribute to the normal function of the nervous system."
Including Vitamin D at 2000IU. There's a widespread shortfall in older UK adults, especially through winter.
Turmeric (BCM-95 Curcumin)
A highly-absorbable form of curcumin. One of the most-studied botanicals in nutrition research, including specific research on joint and brain inflammation. Few formulas include it at a meaningful dose; we do, because the research on it mattered enough to include.

How NeuroBright fits into your day
Two a day, with a glass of cold water
One softgel and one capsule each morning, swallowed with a glass of cold water. That's it.
A tip from me: take yours with a glass of water before breakfast. It's an easy habit to keep.
Nutrition works cumulatively, not overnight. Take it consistently and give it the same patience you'd give any other part of looking after yourself.
